Head-to-Head-with-Data
This creative arts-research, pilot project responds to Strand 1: Understanding crime-related issues locally and potential for targeted prevention.
We will run three workshops in a small rural community and work in partnership with the local comprehensive school. We will work with pupils who receive additional creative and therapeutic enrichment as part of a pioneering programme for pupils with specific emotional and mental health needs.
The research employs practice-based arts research through drawing, video, photography or podcasts, and provides learning on digital literacy and safety online. Through this we will create a safe environment for nuanced, critical, or sensitive conversations.
The research will consider how online and offline interactions interplay and insights into how these interactions might lead to VAWG, ASB or other crime. We will consider the balance between privacy and security and explore the possibility and acceptability of moderation for online protection.
The research will produce both academic data and insights (audio recordings, field notes, reports) alongside artefacts (video, photographs, digital content), and provide social engagement and educational impact.
