Bryan Scotney is Professor of Informatics at Ulster University since 2004 and was appointed as Guest Professor at Keio University, Tokyo in 2017. His research centres on mathematical computation, especially in computer vision, pattern recognition and classification, and his work has been supported by over 20 funding awards from EU Framework Programmes, UK Research Councils, and other funding bodies. He has collaborated widely with both academic and industrial partners on research applied to healthcare, official statistics, biomedical and vision sciences, security, and telecommunications network management. He was President of the Irish Pattern Recognition and Classification Society (2007-2014), and Director of Ulster University’s Computer Science Research Institute (2005-2015), managing over 60 academic staff. He is currently Principal Investigator for the BT-Ireland Innovation Centre (BTIIC), which is home to over 20 research staff and 12 PhD students.
