Mission and Purpose
The mission of Privacy Clinics is to empower and support marginalized and vulnerable populations (MVPs) and the organisations that serve them in proactively building capabilities to protect themselves and their privacy online. Privacy Clinics strive to bridge the gap between experts and community service providers, creating a multidisciplinary, public-interest digital security and privacy service that is accessible and tailored to the unique needs of MVPs. Our mission revolves around fostering inclusivity, providing personalized assistance and ensuring that no community is excluded from discussions surrounding security and privacy.
Aim and Goals
Our overarching aim is to eliminate exclusion that faces various communities concerning security and privacy discussions. Our goal is to actively engage communities, fostering an environment where everyone has the basic minimum knowledge and resources to protect their online privacy.
What do we do?
• We work with community organisations to provide a walk-in personalized security and privacy assistance to the communities they work serve. Services may include help to set up new technology, advice on configuring existing technologies or privacy considerations for future devices/services.
• We provide community organisations with capabilities to serve their clients who need basic skills to protect themselves.
• Similar to university law and medicine models, we provide student with hands-on training where they can use their skills and expertise to serve the communities they live within or next to.
• We empower various students to think about the security and privacy needs of MVPs as they progress in their careers.
